Watch this page as we travel out into Batavia & all of Genesee County Valentines for our Troops 2008 The 2008 "Valentines for our Troops" campaign raised $2,353 in cash donations and collected 1,442 pounds of personal care items for our service men and women serving overseas. The campaign was sponsored this year by the Ladies Auxilary of American Legion Post 576 in LeRoy, UMMC and WBTA. Postage for the 78 boxes of items totaled $1,122.65. With the remaining cash donations, Legion members purchased additional items. Each box contained a letter from the Auxiliary and hand-made valentines, many from children, that were contributed to the drive. Any families that know when their military sons or daughters are returning home from abroad, please contact the American Legion at 768-2090. Toys for Kids 2007 The 29th Annual Toys for Kids Drive was held December 7 and 8, 2007 at Ken Barrett Chevrolet on Main St. in Batavia. The campaign, co-sponsored by the dealership and WBTA, collects toys on behalf of the Salvation Army. Contributors filled two pick-up trucks with toys for all ages. D & S Express Grand Opening WBTA broadcast live from the Grand Opening of D & S Express on West Main St., Saturday, August 18. During the two hour broadcast, gasoline was sold for 10-cents below the area average price. Cars lined up for the savings. WBTA Gets Into the Blue WBTA broadcasts from Deep Blue Pool & Spa on Saturday, May 19 for the annual PDC Truckload Sale. WBTA "Spirit of Downtown Award" WBTA President Dan Fischer (center) accepts the "Spirit of Downtown" Award from Batavia Business Improvement District President John Roche (left) and BID Executive Director, Don Burkel (right). The award presentation was made at the BID Annual luncheon. The station was recognized for its efforts to help promote Downtown Batavia. WBTA Dedicates its studios on Main Street WBTA President Dan Fischer, left, displays a plague in the station's lobby at Main & Center, "The Burton O. Waterman Broadcast Center." Mr. Waterman, center, is Chief Engineer for WBTA who designed and built the technical plant when the station moved to its present location in February, 2004. Engineer Anthony Pilato, right, assisted in the construction. Mr. Fischer said, "Burt Waterman is a brilliant engineer and a close personal friend. It is only fitting that we name our facility in his honor."
