Students and Staff of Genesee Community College today are mourning the loss of one of their own.
19-year-old Delores Opoku-Boateng, a second year Hospitality and Tourism major, was killed yesterday in a violent head-on collision along West Main Street Road.
Delores, originally from New York City, was a member of the school’s Cougarettes Dance Team.
Friends have posted a memorial video to Delores on GCC’s Facebook page.
The African-American Student Union at GCC is holding a bake sale in the student union tomorrow to raise money for Delores’ family.
Also in the thoughts of the GCC community: the driver of the car in which Delores was riding. 21-year old LeVert Kimble, also a GCC student, was taken to ECMC in Buffalo. He is listed in stable condition today.
The investigation continues today into the crash itself.
Chief Deputy Gordon Dibble with the Genesee County Sheriff's Office released a statement late this morning:
"While our investigation is not complete, we do think that the speed of the Honda was greater than what was appropriate for the road conditions that existed at that time. There may be other factors that our investigation will eventually uncover."
