44 year old Randy Smith was stopped on Interstate 390 in Avon for a vehicle and traffic law violation at around 12:20 a.m. last Friday.

When the deputy on scene requested he exit the vehicle under suspicion of possible drug activity, Smith rolled up the window and sped off.  He pulled off to the side of the road a short distance later where he then fled on foot and evaded deputies.

At around 6:30 in the morning a burglary was reported on Scipio Road in Nunda where the homeowner reported a purse and cell phone missing.  While deputies were investigating the complaint, a stolen pickup truck was reported on Polebrige Road in Avon.

Investigation revealed Smith had allegedly made calls and credit card purchases with the stolen material, that he was on Parole and was wanted on an active warrant.

Smith was taken into custody in the Village of Wellsville after he again fled on foot.

He is facing a litany of charges including Felony counts Burglary and Grand Larceny and was locked up without bail.
