Economic Coordinator for Batavia Development Corporation Julie Pacatte appeared as a featured guest on WBTA's Main and Center program this morning.

She explained the delays facing the renovation of the Newberry building on Main Street in the city.

"It started out as simple as a restaurant incubator originally, it's grown into a renovation of the entire Newberry Building.  So it's become a two, almost three million dollar project.  So it took us a little more time to get the design together for the entire space which is about 20 - thousand square feet from the basement to the top floor.  So it took us a little longer than we anticipated on the design"

She said the Batavia Brewing Company is expected to begin brewing by December with a new batch of Batavia made beer ready to bring in the New Year.

The other two spaces on the ground floor are going to be part of the Fresh Lab incubator where Pacatte said they have recruited two Micro Restaurateurs to offer a variety of foods to pair with one of the new brews.

One recent development that may have complicated construction is that the Newberry Building has been added to a list of sites recommended for the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
