A Wind Chill Advisory has been posted for all of Western New York including Genesee County.
The National Weather Service says sub-zero single digit temperatures could create Wind Chills of 15 to 20 degrees below zero.
The Wind Chill Advisory is in effect until 9 this morning.
The bitter cold has caused a two-hour delay this morning for schools in the Pembroke Central School District.
The Batavia City Council meets tonight in both a Conference Meeting and a special Business meeting.
The business meeting is a technicality to set the date for a public hearing on the proposed budget, another measure introduces the local law that will raise water rates and meter fees.
A Conference Meeting will follow. Council often debates pending issues during the conference session but no binding votes are taken.
The council meetings begin at 7p.m. this evening at city hall.
29-year-old Kenyada Peterkin of Rochester arrested for allegedly entering his girlfriend’s home in Batavia and threatening to douse her with hot cooking oil. Batavia Police said Peterkin entered the woman’s home, damaged some of her property and was threatening to burn her with the cooking oil. All of this, police said, was done in front of the woman’s child. Peterkin has been locked up in the county jail in lieu of $15,000 bail.
A Livingston County man faces a rape charge involving a 14-year-old.
59-year-old Stephen Duryee of York has been charged with second and third degree rape as well as endangering the welfare of a child. Investigators say the alleged incident occurred in York back in September. Duryee is being held on 25-thousand dollars bail.
