Genesee County’s unemployment rate increased slightly in the latest reporting period.
The jobless rate rose 4-tenths of a point to 7.8 percent for December.
But, the state labor department says that despite the increase in the unemployment rate, the county actually gained 200 jobs in December.
A defiant Genesee County Economic Development Center makes no apologies for how they handed out nearly $350,000 in employee bonuses over the past five years.
A state report was highly critical of the local industrial development agency calling the bonus payments to a handful of employees, "inappropriate."

Governor Andrew Cuomo says the budget he will reveal early next month will cause great pain. The governor would not confirm or deny reports about the layoffs of nearly 15,000 state workers, but told reporters, yesterday in Poughkeepsie quote: "the chickens are coming home to roost." He said the state is in dire financial shape and corrections need to be made.
Out of work in western New York? You may want to apply for a job at Wegman's Food Market. The Rochester-based grocery chain has ranked at the top of Fortune Magazine's 2010 list of "100 Best Companies to Work For." The food store chain came in at number-three on the list, moving up from its number five spot the year before. In 2005, Wegman's ranked number one.
New York City cab drivers have been put on notice that shabby appearances will no longer be allowed. The Taxi and Limousine Commission has approved a new rule regarding the dress code for cabbies, which will require drivers to maintain what the TLC calls a "professional appearance." The new regulations don't single out any one particular garment that cab drivers can't wear anymore, but say cabbies must be neat and clean.
