The City of Batavia has been approved for a grant of $868,000 to fund construction of new sidewalks.
City Manager Jason Molino confirmed on WBTA’s “Main & Center” program this morning that the grant was part of a $18-million allocation of federals funds, channeled through New York State, and designated for the Finger Lakes Region.
The grant will result in about $1-million worth of work in the 2019 construction season.
“We’re talking sidewalks up and down State Street, along Washington Ave., the east side of Bank St., and Richmond St. just north of Centennial Park,” Molino said.
The grant will also fund regional projects that reduce traffic, emissions or both.  The Rochester area is getting money for five electric buses and fund several other area infrastructure projects.
