The New York Lottery is threatening to shut down Batavia Downs Casino because of management problems with the facility’s owner, Western Regional Off Track Betting.
According to The Ithaca Journal
the Lottery Division says that without improvements, it is authorized to suspend or revoke the video lottery gaming licenses of Western OTB.
A letter has been reportedly sent to officials at Western Regional OTB stating that the Lottery has learned of additional violations including debt transactions without the Lottery’s approval, not providing minutes of board meetings, not submitting salary reports, and discrepancies over capital expenses. So far there has been no comment from Western OTB.
An Elba man was arrested last evening outside the Wal-Mart Store on Route 63. 23-year-old Corey Hemmer of South Main Street in Elba has been charged with Petit Larceny. Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputies say that Hemmer allegedly tried to return an empty box to the store in exchange for a gift card. Hemmer was given the gift card and when the box was examined it was discovered that it was empty. Hemmer was then located at the cash register trying to purchase merchandise from th store. When confronted he allegedly ran from the store. He was discovered hiding behind some tree off of route 63. He was also found to have merchandise inside his coat. Hemmer was arraigned with bail set at 5 thousand dollars.
A one-vehicle accident in the Town of Dansville early this morning has claimed a life. 24-year-old Ryan Perry of Geiger Road in Dansville was killed when his pick-up truck failed to negotiate a curve on the Sahrles Road and struck an earth embankment. Perry was ejected in the crash. Two other passengers in the pick-up were taken to Noyes Hospital in Dansville for treatment of minor injuries. They are identified as 24-year-old Ryan Braun of Dansville and 24 year old Andrew Schledorn of Conesus.
