One wing of the Pontillo's Pizza tradition in Genesee County is closing up shop.
Owner Sam Pontillo has announced that the Pontillo's LeRoy location will close for good - at least for now - after business this Thursday.
Sam says he had been running the restaurant, but his late parents' estate held majority ownership. Sam could have either bought it out, or walked - and he chose to walk.
"I didn't want to be tied to there with the mortgage anymore," Sam tells WBTA. "So, I think it's time for something new for me.
"My employees tell me I haven't taken a day off in two years," he laughs.
Pontillo says all his efforts are now focused at the Batavia restaurant now, which has been renamed Batavia's Original. He says he won't rule out returning to LeRoy and re-opening that restaurant again someday.
