UPDATE: The home was owned by Diane Allison. Authoriries said Allison was not at home when the fire started. At least two house cats fled the fire and ran into the surrounding woods. By late afternoon the cats had yet to be located.
Dozens of volunteer firemen from several departments remain at the scene of a house fire in the Town of Darien.
The first alarm was sound at about 1:30 p.m. this afternoon.
The location of the burning house was given as 1081 Broadway Road near Warner Road.
Traffic westbound onto Broadway Road at Route 77 and eastbound from Harlow Rd. remains blocked by fire police.
There have been no confirmed reports of injuries. WBTA Producer/Anchor Geoff Redick reports from the scene that the second floor of the wooden frame structure has been destroyed, while flames have gutted the first floor.
Volunteers from the Alden Fire Department are using an aerial boom to pour water under high pressure into the structure.
The Genesee County Emergency Services Coordinator is also on the scene.
National Grid has been called to turn off electricity to the structure.
