The Elmira woman convicted of Manslaughter in the death of her two-year old Batavia stepson is scheduled to learn her sentence later today.
24-year-old Melissa Englehardt was found guilty of first degree manslaughter in the death of little Andrew Cianfrini.
A Chemung County Court judge found Englehardt guilty of manslaughter but not murder, as she was originally charged.
The judge apparently agreed with the defense that Englehardt did not intend to kill the boy when she fed him windshield washer fluid in his sippy cup.
Englehardt’s defense lawyer claimed she was only trying to make the boy sick in order to help win a custody fight with Andrew’s mother, Kristen Cianfrini of Batavia.
Sentencing for Englehardt is scheduled for 1:30 this afternoon in Chemung County Court in Elmira.
