The lake effect snow warning has been lifted, but not before our area received maybe 3 to 4 inches of snow. The first snow since February 28th or 271 days ago. Roads are snow covered but are very passable. You will want to allow a little extra time to get where you are going today. According to the national weather service the lake effect snow has drifted south of the area. Some of the snow should melt today as a high is expected in the mid 30’s. More will melt on Sunday with a high expected in the upper 30’s.
The shopping frenzy of Black Friday overtook one crowd in Buffalo and ended with several shoppers trampled by rushing early birds. The pile up happened at the North Buffalo Target, and when the workers finally got the crowd under control at least one man was taken to the hospital. Seconds after the doors opened, something went dangerously wrong. Crazed Black Friday shoppers began piling up on each other. A shopper said, "It went from controlled to a mob in less than five minutes and it just got nasty."
When officials heard the screams they ran over right away to help.After it happened, one man bent over in pain, but he took off into the North Buffalo Target store seconds later along with everyone else. One man was taken to Kenmore Mercy hospital where he was treated and released.Target officials at first said they had no idea anyone was injured until they learned about from media sources.
The Salvation Army of Batavia has announced the fundraising goal for their Red Kettle campaign: 65-thousand dollars.
The Red Kettle campaign is an annual event centered around Christmastime, featuring that iconic red kettle and the signature bell ringers outside local stores.
A ceremony at Seymour Place in Batavia kicked off the campaign on Friday. Local luminaries and Salvation Army members made the ceremonial first donations.
An Elba man is behind bars this morning after being arrested yesterday on a charge of sexual abuse. Genesee County sheriff’s Deputies say they received a 911 call in the Town of Elba. 25-year-old Rigoberto Aguilar of the Oak Orchard Road in Elba was arrested for allegedly having sexual contact with a child under the age of 11 years of age. Bail in his case has been set at 25 thousand dollars.
A LeRoy youth has been arrested on two misdemeanor charges after he allegedly used a fake out of state identification card to purchase alcohol.
The 16-year-old youth has been charged with Criminal Impersonation and Identity Theft. The youth was allegedly seen purchasing alcohol at a LeRoy gas station. The out of state ID did not belong to him.
