Deliberating less than five minutes, a Batavia City Court jury acquitted convicted murderer Scott Doll of smuggling contraband into the Genesee County jail.
The six-member jury late yesterday found Doll not guilty of Promoting Prison Contraband. Genesee County Sheriff's Deputies had accused Doll of taping a green balloon filled with a white powder on his body.
The suspected contraband was allegedly discovered when Doll was processed into the county jail minutes after his conviction in the beating death of Joseph Benequist.
In closing arguments, defense attorney Dan Killelea questioned where the powder came from, suggesting that a jail guard may have given Doll what tests later determined, was aspirin
Doll was a former corrections officer.
Doll is serving a 15-year to life sentence for murder in the death of Benequist, a former business associate.
Doll will be returned to state prison to continue serving his sentence for the homicide.
