An Oswego county man has been arrested on felony charges for allegedly bilking local farmers out of money for timber.
49-year-old Donnie Hendrickson of Bernhard’s Bay, New York, is charged with Grand Larceny for trespassing and removing timber from at least three Genesee County Farms.
Chief Deputy Jerry Brewster with the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office explains the scam:
"What we had was a complaint from a number of people in the eastern part of Genesee County where they contracted with Hendrickson to cut timber on their property and derive some profit from the sale of that timber. Unfortunately, as most of these deals go, the timber was cut and dragged away and the farmers never saw any money."
A second defendant in the case is being brought back to Genesee County from Syracuse where he’s being held on an unrelated charged.
Brewster said Hendrickson ripped off the Hope Farm in Stafford for $19,000 worth of timber.
The Stein Farm in LeRoy was taken for $1,800 and Englerth Farm in Stafford lost about $450 worth of timber.
Brewster said at least two other farms may have been targets of the scam, but there was not enough evidence to place charges in those cases.
