For the second time in three weeks, a Town of Covington man has been arrested for impersonating a federal officer.
41-year-old Nikko Gambino of the Morrow Road in Covington has been arrested on a charge of Criminal Impersonation. Gambino is accused of entering a LeRoy business last month, dressed as a federal agent, and directing the employees of that business to make a phone call under his pretend authority.
Last month, Gambino was arrested by Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputies for allegedly attempting the same type of thing at the Batavia Wal-Mart.
So far it hasn’t been determined why Gambino is doing this, though Chief Deputy Jerome Brewster suspects it is some sort of diversion. Brewster says he thinks that Gambino wants to draw attention to himself while an accomplice attempts to steal something.
Gambino is in jail on $750 bail.
