The Batavia City School District is set to receive over $180,000 dollars in Race to the Top Education funds from New York State.

District Superintendent Margaret Puzio made the announcement in a news release this afternoon.

Under the terms of the grant, Batavia Schools must make two changes: teacher and principal evaluations wills be altered to include student performance; and make use of better networking. Batavia will be required to network, compare, and work with at least 25 schools in the area to support and improve curriculum.

New York State won out in Race to the Top in the second round of the nationwide contest. It pitted states against each other to reward those states who showed the most promise in education.
