The woman who was scheduled to become the first person sentenced under the full Leandra’s Law in Genesee County Court, has had her case adjourned.

Attorney Jerry Ader received the adjournment today at what was supposed to be Sandra Lynn Pearce’s sentencing. Ader will investigate his client’s eligibility for service work detail as part of her sentence.

Pearce was scheduled to be sentenced this afternoon for Felony DWI. Under the law’s new provision, she would have been ordered to install an expensive ignition interlock device on every car she may drive. That device would require anyone driving the vehicle to first blow into it, much like a breathalyzer. If it detects alcohol on the driver's breath, the vehicle will not start.
