Jury selection gets underway in Genesee County Court today for the attempted murder trial of 31-year-old Andre Scott of Rochester. He’s accused of setting a fire at 12 Elm Street in January of 2009. Batavia Police said at the time that Scott threatened to kill his girlfriend’s father who lived in a second floor apartment of the home on Elm Street. Police said that a gallon of gas was poured down two flights of stairs and then ignited. The father and three other occupants of the home managed to safely escape the flames. Reportedly the girl friend had just broken off her relationship with Scott at the time of the fire.
Another Concert at Darien Lake yesterday and another series of arrests. 21 persons were arrested, two from the area during the Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival with Disturbed Concert. 27-year-old David Bull of West Avenue in Attica was arrested for Criminal Mischief after allegedly damaging two vehicles parked in the parking lot. He’s in jail with bail set at 500 dollars. 23-year-old Amanda Jutze of Allegheny Road in Darien was given an appearance ticket for Trespassing. She allegedly refused to leave the concert after being asked several times to do so.
In all three persons were jailed, 10 persons were given appearance tickets for various crimes and another 8 were arrested for underage drinking offenses. This time the person to come the farthest to get arrested was from Watertown.
One person was arrested during Saturday’s Summer in the City Festival in Downtown Batavia. 17-year-old Latessa Williams of Ellicott Street in Batavia was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest. Members of the Batavia Police Officers Foot Patrol arrested Williams for a verbal confrontation with another female. She allegedly yelled obscenities towards police and physically resisted when placed under arrest.
42-year-old Jeffrey Cervone of Trumbull Parkway was arrested Friday night on a charge of Disorderly Conduct. Cervone allegedly had threatened another male.
Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputies made a traffic stop Saturday night for speeding and found the driver 21-year-old Jose Lopez-Torres of Oak Orchard Road in Batavia to be in the country illegally. He was turned over to the Border Patrol.
34-year-old John King of Cockram Road in Byron was charged with Harassment Sunday afternoon. He reportedly had subjected physical contact on a woman by placing his hand around her neck. The incident occurred during a domestic dispute.
A physical altercation between mother and daughter led to the arrest of 40 year old Phyllis Brew of Main Road in Stafford. She’s been charged with Harassment.
A Batavia man, 26-year-old Joshua Martaus of Overbrook Drive has been charged with menacing, harassment, and for possession of a prescribed controlled substance outside its original container. Martaus allegedly struck a female family member several times and attempted to choke her. He’s in jail with bail set at 500 dollars.
Four teenage girls from LeRoy and Stafford have been arrested on a charge of Criminal Mischief by LeRoy police. The girls allegedly vandalized park benches on Main Street in LeRoy. The two oldest girls are identified as 19 year old Elizabeth Leach of LeRoy and 18-year-old Cassondra Majors of LeRoy.
Buffalo police continue to ask for cooperation from the community to determine the identity of the person who shot and killed four persons outside The City Grill early in the morning on August 14th. The fourth and final funeral was held over the weekend. 26-year-old Willie McCaa was laid to rest after about 400 mourners packed the Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ on Saturday.
