One Batavia man is under arrest and another wanted after a shoplifting attempt in Henrietta.
24-year-old Chad Johnston and 43-year-old Mark McWerthy are both charged with Grand Larceny.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputies say the pair entered Home Depot last Thursday and filled up two carts with over a thousand dollars each of identical merchandise. One was checked out; the other was left sitting in the store. The men dropped off the first cart, and came back for the second. Then they allegedly left the store again, this time without paying, and attempted to use the receipt from the first cart as proof of purchase for the second.
It didn’t work. Johnston was apprehended and jailed without bail. McWerthy reportedly fled – a warrant is out for his arrest.
