The City of Batavia’s new fire chief says he’s excited to move to Batavia and get started. James Maxwell of Greece was informally announced last night as the new City fire chief, as City Council temporarily waived the residency requirements for the job.
Maxwell has a long list of experiences in firefighting, but only one year as a Fire Chief in North Greece. He doesn’t believe that puts him at a disadvantage:
"I had three years as Assistant Chief, two years as Deputy Chief (in the North Greece Fire Department)," says Maxwell, "and I also had three years as assistant chief in the Lakeshore Fire Department. So I feel with that background - and other supervisory positions I've had throughout my career - I'm prepared for the challenge."
James Maxwell has one year to move into Genesee County. He says he’ll spend a good deal of time first getting acclimated to the City Fire Department before he thinks about moving here.
