The ‘Pathway to Hope’ at the YWCA is destroyed by vandals.
The lighted walkway was intended to serve as a symbol of hope, established in the memory of Batavia native Nicole Sheehan, who was fatally shot by her boyfriend last month at the age of 29.
The lights were installed one week ago at a candlelight vigil to honor Nicole’s memory and bring attention to the gravest result of intimate partner domestic violence.
Executive Director Jeanne Walton says the walkway was destroyed sometime last weekend.
“I think it was a deliberate, intentional act,” she said. “I think somebody did it to be mean and nasty and make a statement.”
Walton urges anyone with information to call Batavia Police: 345-6350.
