A new report shows that registered nurses in Genesee County and much of the state make less than those in the New York City area.
The report released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics also includes nursing assistants' pay.
The study shows that on average, nurses in New York City make $36 an hour.
There were no specific numbers available outside metro areas, but Genesee County fell into the below average rate of $33 an hour. In Rochester, nurses make $29 an hour.
BLS also included these notes:
· In 2013, registered nurses in 7 of the 12 metropolitan areas in the state had wages significantly below the national average.
· Only the New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island area had wages that were significantly higher than the U.S. average for registered nurses.
· Nine metropolitan areas had wages for nursing assistants that were significantly higher than the national average
· No metropolitan area in New York reported significantly lower wages for nursing assistants.
