Two local athletes captured New York State Track and Field Championships.

Batavia’s Alex Egeli took home the title in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.33, edging the second-place finisher by 3-one hundredths of a second.

Egeli also finished sixth on Batavia’s 4-x-1 relay team, and qualified for today’s 110-meter hurdle finals today, along with 100-meter finals.

Meanwhile, Le Roy senior Rubin Owens captured a pair of state titles, winning the long jump with a leap of 23 feet, 11 inches…over a foot ahead of the runner-up.

Owens also defended his state crown in the triple jump with a personal best of 49 feet, 7 inches.

He will compete in the high jump today, an event he won last year also, along with competing for Federation championships in the long jump and triple jump.

Owens signed a letter of intent for a scholarship to Southeastern Conference Track and Field powerhouse Arkansas last spring.

Le Roy's Ryan McQuillen finished fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 44 feet, 6 inches, while Batavia's Marissa Dispenza qualified for the 100-meter finals with a time of 15.73 seconds.
