It’s the Memorial Day week-end the first holiday of the summer season. The weather should be very good this week-end with the only rain in the forecast set for today. Temperatures will be increasing all week-end. A high today of 61, 70 on Saturday, 75 on Sunday and 78 on Memorial Day, Monday. So you should be able to make your plans for the weekend whether it be a trip or a picnic. Actually the area has blessed with good Memorial Day weather for the past several years.
However if you a boater on Keuka, Canandaigua, or Honeoye Lake it won’t be a good week-end. Last week’s storms in the Finger Lakes area has caused the water level of those lakes to rise and therefore motorized boating has been banned on the three lakes starting at 8am this morning. Sheriff’s Deputies will be enforcing the ban on motorized boats. Officials are concerned that the high water levels will cause floating debris and submerged docks.
A quantity of heroin and 20 Xanax tablets were confiscated during a traffic stop in Stafford by members of the Genesee County Local Drug Enforcement Task Force. 21 year old Cody Mayer of South Lake Road in Bergen has been charged with possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree. He was issued an appearance ticket and will appear in Stafford Town Court at a later date.
A traffic accident yesterday morning on the Angling Road in the Town of Pembroke has resulted in the arrest of the driver. 29 year old Matthew Optiz of Hunting Spring in Rochester has been charged with the operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs. He was also cited for numerous traffic violations. Optiz was alone in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
The prosecution has rested in the murder trial of Clayton Whittemore. He’s accused of killing his former girl friend at Brockport State College back in 2012. It will now be the defenses turn. A jail house informant was the final prosecution witness. The witness testified that Whittemore became enraged the Alexandra Kogut was moving on with her life and began beating here with a clothing iron.
The National Weather Service is investigating to determine whether a tornado touched down in Albany and Schenectady counties. Witnesses report that a possible tornado caused damage in Delanson and Duanesburg, with numerous reports of damage to homes, vehicles, trees and wires. Golf ball sized hail was also reported in the Delanson area. A National Weather Service team is heading to the area today and will release their final results this afternoon.
Andrew Cuomo and Kathy Hochul are officially the nominated Democratic candidates for governor and lieutenant governor of New York. The nomination was made official as state Democrats wrapped up their convention yesterday. Governor Cuomo and the former Buffalo area congresswoman will now turn their focus on defeating Republican Rob Astorino. Cuomo says he wants to build on the successes of his first term, which included infrastructure upgrades, deficit reduction and strengthening gun laws.
