United Memorial Medical is celebrating its designation as a Stroke Center by the state Department of Health.
“The Health Department comes in and they survey you and look at all of your charts and your policies and, they found no deficiencies, which, from what we understand, is not common,” Community Relations Director Colleen Flynn said on WBTA’s Main and Center program Monday morning.
With the first three hours of a stroke, patients need to be administered a drug intravenously. Flynn says now there’s no reason to delay possibly life-saving treatment.
“Now you can come to United Memorial,” Flynn said. “We’re right here in your backyard. The state of New York Department of Health has said that we are a Stroke Center and we can actually start that process and that great medical care much faster for you.”
UMMC officials say the designation is a testament to its stroke team’s collaboration with emergency medicine.
