A proposed housing development on Stringham Drive in Batavia is causing controversy with residents.
A development company from Rochester is proposing to build a number of 2 family homes on some nearby property.
Karen Tomidy, a resident of Stringham Drive for nearly 19 years, says traffic getting out of her street is already a concern.
"We have concerns about traffic in that area," Tomidy says. "The developers don't even have a plan on how to have the traffic exit this new development."
Tomidy says a planned retention pond on the site could be an environmental and health hazard. Another problem: the developers themselves.
"We're questioning," challenges Tomidy, "why the town would want to have a development company out of Rochester, Northstar Development - that has questionable business practices that have been documented in the last few months - come in and take over control and ownership of this prime piece of property."
A public hearing on the issue is scheduled for tonight at Town Hall, following a Planning Board meeting. Tomidy says she and 50-70 of her neighbors will be there.
