State Police Avoid Head-On Crash

State Police had to take immediate evasive action to avoid a head-on collision this morning along Route 5 in the Town of Batavia.

Troopers said an eastbound vehicle changed lanes, crossed over lane markers, and headed directly toward a state police patrol car in the westbound lane.

Troopers stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver, 37 year old Joshua Clark of LeRoy for DWI. State Police said Clark recorded a blood alcohol level of point-one-three.

Governor Cuomo Reminds New Yorkers to Test Smoke Detectors

Governor Andrew Cuomo is reminding New Yorkers to test their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors as they "spring forward" this weekend. Working smoke and CO alarms provide early warnings of dangerous situations, but they're of no use if the batteries are dead.

Cuomo suggests making sure that smoke alarms are in every bedroom and on every floor of a home, and that the batteries are tested every year.

All alarms should be replaced after 19 years.


GCEDC Releases Annual Report

Genesee County’s Economic Development Center hosted 300 community leaders today as the agency released its annual report.

During the meeting, the EDC honored Genesee Community College as its Economic Development Partner of the year.

Officials updated the status of the STAMP project in the Town of Alabama, a high tech industrial park with the potential to create thousands of jobs.

The state has recently released 5-million dollars in funding to continue work on the site, but another 33-million is needed to make it shovel-ready for development.

Hawley to hold Three Town Hall Meetings

State Assemblyman Steve Hawley of Batavia is holding three Town Hall meetings today.

The meetings begin at 9:30 this morning in the Old County Courthouse in Batavia;

Another session is set for 10:30 in the Stafford Town Hall followed by an 11:30 meeting in LeRoy Town Hall.

Hawley says the meetings provide an opportunity for his constituents to ask questions or raise concerns about what is happening in Albany.
