The case of a Batavia man accused of throwing a punch causing serious brain trauma to the victim will go to trial in April.

Shane Bell, 47, of Jackson Street has rejected any plea deal to a reduced charge, instead deciding to present his case to a jury.

Bell pleaded not guilty to a charge of second-degree assault in October for the one-punch incident on Harvester Avenue in August. His plea cut-off was this afternoon in County Court before Judge Robert Noonan.

Bell is currently incarcerated in the Genesee County Jail.

The victim, 51-year-old Scott Baker, initially had a grim prognosis, but court documents indicate he had somewhat improved since the incident.
