Within a week this January, the Batavia Police Department received a dozen reports of larcenies from cars.
BPD announced today that between Jan. 13 and 20 items such as cash, change, purses, wallets, GPS devices and other electronic items were stolen from unlocked vehicles around the city.
The larcenies were reported on Brooklyn Avenue, Meadowcrest Drive and Trumbull Parkway, as well as South Main, Franklin, Elm, Hutchins and Swan Streets.
The department believes the larcenies were committed by people walking through neighborhoods in the evening hours.
BPD advises locking unattended vehicles and not leaving valuable items inside them overnight.
BPD says officers will continue to be observant and as usual, residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity.
