The first true blizzard in years is winding down after delivering an Arctic blast and plenty of snow to Western New York
The Travel Ban in Genesee County has been lifted.
Sheriff Gary Maha said that as the winds have subsided, visibility has improved but many roads remain snow covered and slippery and caution is advised.
The New York State Thruway is open.
The Thruway had been closed from Rochester to the Pennsylvania state line, but right now…it is open.
The travel advisory in Wyoming County has been lifted.
All public and parochial schools in Genesee County, including Batavia City Schools, are closed again today.
The GCC Batavia campus is closed.
The National Weather Service has posted a Lake Effect Snow Advisory until 7 tonight.
new snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches are expected
All other warnings for Genesee County have been cancelled.
Even with reduced winds, single digit temperatures will result in wind chills of zero to 10 below.
Finding a parking place in Genesee County was a real problem for truckers forced off the thruway.
First, they ran out of room at the Flying J. Then, the Pembroke High School lot filled up, so deputies starting sending trucks to look for parking in Batavia.
The lots have filled up at Walmart, Home Depot and Target.
Kmart declined to allow truck parking.
Another woman, number seven, is now claiming that Western New York Assemblyman Dennis Gabryszak subjected her to sexual harassment. She is a former communications coordinator for the assemblyman. She says Gabryszak subjected her to a pattern of harassment.
When she complained, the woman says her 52-thousand-dollar salary was cut in half as retaliation.
The 2014 session of the New York Assembly gets underway today. Governor Andrew Cuomo will deliver his State of the State address this afternoon at the Empire State Plaza convention center. Cuomo will lay out his vision for the final year of his first term in office, and is expected to call for property tax relief and spending limits. He is also expected to announce an executive order to launch a strictly controlled medical marijuana system.
