An extremely bitter wind chill may have contributed to the death of a Byron woman.
Genesee County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the death of the woman whose body was found a few hours after she left her home yesterday wearing only indoor clothing.
The woman’s name has not been released.
She had reportedly suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.
The sheriff’s office is expected to release further information later this morning.
Town of Batavia firemen battled flames early this morning that broke out in a room at the Sunset Motel on West Main Street.
Volunteers from Pembroke assisted at the scene.
The fire destroyed one room at the motel and damaged others.
Occupants of four rooms had to be evacuated.
A Wind Chill Advisory has been issued for Genesee and Wyoming Counties. The National Weather Service is predicting wind chills of between 15 and 20 degrees blow zero. The advisory remains in effect until Noon today.

New York is under a state of emergency as the first snowstorm of 2014 blasts the region. Governor Andrew Cuomo says Long Island will likely bear the brunt of the storm. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has also declared a state of emergency as severe winter weather bears down on the Garden State. Christie has closed state offices today for all non-essential employees.
A LeRoy man accused of stealing copper wire from industrial plants in LeRoy, while the lines were energized, fails to show up for sentencing. 28-year-old Michael Nicometo of North Street, LeRoy, was apparently hospitalized at Strong Hospital in Rochester. He is free under supervision, but hasn’t appeared at Genesee Justice per the terms of his release since Oct. 30.
An arrest warrant went out in November.
Nicometo pleaded guilty Sept. 20 to third-degree burglary.
The new scheduled sentencing date is the 17th.
His brother and alleged accomplice, Dustin, is scheduled in County Court today. Dustin was indicted along with Michael in September on burglary and grand larceny charges.

The dispute between Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams and his former fiancé’ over a $785,000 engagement ring is at a peaceful end. Williams and Erin Marzouki have reached a settlement to end the dispute, with the terms not disclosed. After the relationship between the two ended, Williams demanded the ring back, but Marzouki claimed that he told her to keep it.
