Today is one of those days you would like to stay home if you could. The area has been blanked by several inches of snow since yesterday and the forecast calls for more. The national weather service has issued a winter storm warning for Genesee, Wyoming, and Erie Counties. The warning stays in effect until 6am tomorrow morning and is calling for 4 to 8 inches of snow today and another 2 to 4 inches tonight. A wind Chill Advisory has been issued starting at 4 this afternoon and running through noon on Friday. We could see wind chill temperatures of 15 to 20 below over night.

Most of the state including New York City is feeling or will feel the effects of the storm. That has prompted Governor Andrew Cuomo to activate the State Emergency Operations Center at 10 this morning. New York City proper is expected to get 4 to 8 inches of snow and the storm could result in coastal flooding and beach erosion.

Today’s storm has resulted in one school closing. LeRoy Central schools are closed today. They were one of the few schools to schedule classes for today as most were off for the Christmas Vacation.

If you are flying today, you should be prepared for delays and cancellations. The storm yesterday caused eight cancelled flights and seven delays yesterday at the Rochester airport. The best advice is to check with your airline for the most up-to-date information.

If you purchased MVP health care on the New York State Health exchange there is some good news for you today. The local hospital, United Memorial Medical Center and MVP has signed an agreement that will include UMMC as part of the network for MVP health insurance products purchased through the Exchange or “Market Place” MVP had been the only insurer not to sign an agreement with UMMC for the new insurance policies issued under the Affordable Health Care Act. This agreement means UMMC is a part of all the networks authorized to sell polices in Genesee County.

An Albion woman was hit by a pick-up truck while crossing Route 31-A in the Orleans County town of Shelby on New Year’s Eve. 22 year old Amber Holloway was taken to ECMC and was treated for her injuries and released. The driver of the pick-up truck, 27 year old David Erway also of Albion was not injured. Holloway told Orleans County Sheriff Deputies that she was waling home after consuming alcohol at a private residence. Deputies say neither alcohol nor unsafe speed on the part of Erway were contributing factors.

A number of felony charges have been lodged against 45 year old Matthew Bartlett of Wayland. Bartlett is accused for entering a home in the town of Springwater in Livingston County on Christmas Eve and with the theft of 6 long guns. The investigation has revealed that Bartlett sold two of the guns. He is charged with Burglary, Grand Larceny, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Sale of a Weapon, and Possession of Stolen Property.
