News release from the Genesee ARC:
A Bergen teen and his sisters have come through for Genesee ARC --- again! Family, friends and business leaders gathered during the holidays to congratulate Jerry Jr. , Jillian, and Julia Menzie on their outstanding successes in the 2013 Genesee ARC Bowl-A-Thon. The trio raised a total of $2,181.35 and Jerry was the overall top fund raiser for a fifth year in a row with an impressive $1,796.35.
The first time Jerry participated in the Bowl-A-Thon was 2004 when he raised $60.00. According to ARC Community Relations Coordinator, Sandy Konfederath, he has come a long way. “In ten years Jerry Menzie has raised total of $9,108.49 ,” she said. “The whole Menzie family is a champion of the ARC Bowl-A-Thon,” Konfederath added. “We are so grateful for their support.”
Along with his Saturday bowling league at the Rose Garden Lanes, Jerry Menzie is a member of two other leagues at the Gates Bowling Center, including a travel league. His bowling average hovers around the 180 mark. He is also on the Varsity golf team at Byron-Bergen.
Involvement in the Bowl-A-Thon spans three generations at the Menzie’s Munger Street home. Ellen Menzie, 93, retired just a few years ago as Youth League Coordinator at the Bergen Rose Garden Lanes. She helped coordinate the Bowl-A-Thon at the Rose Garden for all of her years there. When her son Jerry Sr. was a youth league bowler, he was the top Bowl-A-Thon Fund Raiser, a title he held for over thirty years until that record was broken by his son Jerry Jr. in 2009. “He was driven to beat that record a few years ago,” Konfederath said. “What is amazing now, is the drive to continue helping ARC,” the coordinator said of Jerry and his sisters.
