A handful of people are hospitalized after an accident in Batavia this morning, including two pedestrians. Officer Kevin DeFelice of City of Batavia Police says it happened just after 11 a.m. at the intersection of Oak and Richmond Streets.
“One vehicle was reported northbound on state Route 98,” he said, “one vehicle was reported southbound. It appears one vehicle may have failed to yield the right-of-way on a left-hand turn possibly.”
Officials do not know the severity of injuries at this time, but all patients are stable. One was taken to Strong Memorial and the others to UMMC. It’s unclear whether there were six or seven people involved.
“I’m not sure where they were, at this point, when they got struck,” Officer DeFelice said of the two pedestrians. “I don’t know if they were in the crosswalk or the sidewalk due to the way the vehicles ended up after the accident. Most likely, after the initial contact between the two vehicles, the pedestrians were struck by something at that point.”
No names have been released. The accident is under investigation.
