Genesee County to Now Dispatch State Police Calls
The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office has announced today it will dispatch all State Police calls effective Nov. 1.
Sheriff Gary Maha in a statement says “the partnership comes at a time when governments are being asked to cut expenses and share services. It just makes sense to combine dispatching into one central location where future equipment and resources can de dedicated to a single site.”
State Police Captain Craig Hanesworth headquartered in Batavia says he believes this consolidation will provide Genesee County residents with better police service and response times while also increasing the safety of officers. He says it allows State Police to reassign troopers to road patrol functions that would have otherwise been delegated to dispatch and administrative functions.
Former Corfu Court Clerk Accused of Stealing Pleads Guilty, Pays Restitution
The former Village of Corfu court clerk accused of stealing over $10,000 in court funds may avoid jail time after she pleaded guilty to a single felony count and paid restitution.
Brandi Watts issued a check for almost $10,200 to the village and county court. She also pleaded guilty to a single count of tampering with government records – a class D felony.
Watts was charged in a 61-count indictment for falsifying documents to steal the court’s funds. If she obeys her interim probation and stays out of trouble she could be given a chance at a conditional discharge and avoid up to seven years in prison.
Watts was the clerk for her father, Robert Alexander, the former village justice. He is next scheduled in court Nov. 18.
Griswold Road Bridge in Town of Stafford Reopens
The Griswold Road bridge over the Black Creek in the Town of Stafford has been reopened according to county highway superintendent Tim Hens.
The bridge was closed in the summer of 2012 due to its bad condition. With federal aid, the county replaced it in August with construction taking about 14 weeks.
Motorists who have been avoiding stopping at the intersection of Caswell and Griswold Roads due to the closure can now proceed through after making a full stop.
