Genesee County is holding its prescription drug take-back day this Saturday.

Residents with leftover or unwanted medications or syringes can turn them in at three locations with no questions asked from 10 to 2: the Batavia Police Department, LeRoy Police Department or the Pembroke Town Highway Barns.

Detective Sergeant Pat Corona says BPD alone brought in hundreds of pounds the last drug take-back day.

“It’s such a convenient way to properly dispose of these unwanted medications to keep them out of the wrong hands, make sure they’re not abused and protect our environment,” he said.

The collection numbers have decreased, but Corona says that’s a good sign.

“To me, that’s telling me we’re having an impact. There’s less drugs out there to be dropped off.”
