Two trucks in Elba collide spilling significant amounts of gasoline, but luckily, no one was hurt.
It happened at around a quarter past two today at Rt. 262 and Norton Road.
“It appears to be that the farm vehicle – the white tractor trailer – was heading southbound on Norton Road and the red dump truck – the Town of Bergen truck – was heading eastbound on state Route 262,” Trooper Holly Hanssel said at the scene. “The white farm truck failed to yield the right-of-way and both vehicles struck -- T-bone.”
“The driver of the white truck would definitely have been injured if he did not have a seatbelt,” Trooper Hanssel said. “They both were seatbelted in and I think that has a lot to do with why there’re no injuries.”
After pulling apart the wreckage, authorities determined 40 gallons of fuel spilled. Hazmat crews were quickly on the scene to clean things up.
State Police has not released names of the drivers. One will be ticketed for Failure to Yield.
As of about 4 p.m. Edgerton and Norton Roads were closed with one lane open on Rt. 262.
