Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is calling for funding to eradicate an invasive beetle found in 15 counties statewide including Genesee before it destroys forests.
In a letter to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, she says the emerald ash borer threatens New York’s “beautiful” forests. Those forests are an economic driver, she says, employing more than 60-thousand workers and adding $4.6 billion to the state’s economy.
She says the funding would be for research, control and eradication of this insect population.
