Federal regulations are increasing for co-pilots.

It revolves around certification requirements, which will increase from 250 hours to 1,500 hours.

The FAA says co-pilots will also need specific training for the planes they fly. It applies to both cargo and passenger planes in the U.S.

Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx says it stems from the 2009 Colgan Air flight 3407 crash in Clarence which killed 49 people on board and one on the ground.
