The Batavia Public Market opened for the season today.
The Batavia Business Improvement District says it’s an effort to get people to head downtown, while offering goods and services not readily found in stores.
While it provides a great opportunity for a rural region to learn about and try special goods, it’s also businesses friendly. One of the tenants, Katie Chapell-Vaught owns and runs Athena’s Bakery: Dog Treats from the Heavens which is based in Pavilion where she makes homemade, all-natural dog food. Chapell-Vaught says its markets like here in Batavia that feed her business.
“It gets my name out there,” she said. “I don’t actually have a store, so I just do the markets and different craft shows and stuff like that. It helps gets my name out so I can get a little more business and some more frequent customers.”
The market is open every Thursday at the corner of Center and Ellicott Streets Downtown from 9 - 3:30 p.m.
