An act of animal kindness didn’t quite work out yesterday in the City of Batavia. A driver tried stopping traffic to save the lives of 9 ducklings and their mother. While driving on Main Street, a man got out of his vehicle when he saw the ducklings and the mother trying to cross the street. Although he tried avoiding them from getting hit, a car struck them anyway. The mother and some of the ducks were killed. A firefighter initially took five ducks home to take care of but, according to a D.E.C. law, he was not allowed to keep the migratory birds in his home. They've since been taken in by the Black Creek Wildlife Station in Churchville.
