Elba may just be a small town in Genesee County to the outside, but its school district is picking up some big accolades.

Jeremy Rath and Tammy Plucknette were honored Monday for great recognition they’ve brought to Elba Central Schools.

Rath has been named an outstanding music teacher by the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Plucknette was chosen from 3,000 applicants to be among 200 teachers on the Learnzillion Dream Team. That means she’ll be working with the company responsible for developing curriculum and material to help teachers integrate the Common Core lesson plans as part of new state guidelines.

“This means great things for Elba," Stephanie Rudman, who helped organize the reception, said. "We’re a little school in Genesee County and we have two awesome teachers. It’s just a small reflection of all the teachers we have in Elba. It’s a great school.”

Plucknette just returned from a trip to San Francisco to learn how to make videos for Learnzillion’s web site. Rath was selected among music teachers from nine WNY counties and will be honored at an RPO concert Thursday.
