A Batavia woman is facing six felony charges related to welfare fraud, according to a report from the County Department of Social Services.
31-year-old Sarah Elmore of Bank Street Road is charged with Offering a False Instrument for Filing as well as one count of Petit Larceny. Elmore is accused of withholding information that she was working as a self-employed personal care aide in various submitted forms to the department. Elmore -- despite earning money from her business, the report says -- allegedly received $686 worth of Food Stamp benefits as well as HEAP benefits ($75).
Elmore was arrested today by the sheriff’s office and issued an appearance ticket to appear in Batavia Town Court April 11.
Anyone wishing to report cases of suspected welfare fraud should contact the social services department.
