Elba’s McKenzie Bezon is the New York State Player of the Year for the second straight season in Class D basketball.

The selection is made by the New York State Sports Writers and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports. Bezon was named to third-team all-state as a freshman. Her teammate, Jamie Marshall, was named to the second team all-state this year. The Lancers finished the season with just one loss the season after winning a state championship. It came in the sectional semifinal against the Fighting Irish.

Notre Dame’s Mel Taylor was also named to the first-team all-state list and teammate Riley Norton was selected on the second team also in Class D. The Fighting Irish, of course, finished the season as state champions.
