One person is dead after a two-car accident this morning on Route 262 at Chapel Road in Byron.

Sergeant Mark Lepzyk of the State Police describes what happened from the scene.

“There was a vehicle southbound on Chapel Road at the intersection of State Route 262," he said. "That vehicle pulled onto Rt. 262 to head eastbound, failed to yield the right-of-way, striking another vehicle that was westbound on Rt. 262. That vehicle rolled over and the operator was ejected and was unfortunately deceased at the scene.”

State Police have identified the deceased as 28-year-old Jeremy Murray of Clarendon. The other driver is 57-year-old Terry Boyce of the Town of Alabama. Boyce was cited for failure to yield and an additional citation may be pending.

Mercy Flight was called to scene but later cancelled. The accident was reported around 9 this morning.

There were no other passengers in the two vehicles. Boyce was treated for minor injuries and was apparently not transported to a hospital, according to Sgt. Lepzyk.

Sgt. Lepzyk says there is no indication of any alcohol, drug or distracted driving-related influence at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.
