The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two men for alleged copper wire theft.
Twenty-eight-year-old Michael Nicometo of North Street, LeRoy, and 22-year-old Jonathan Smoak of State Street Road, Batavia are charged with three felony counts each of burglary, criminal mischief and grand larceny.
The sheriff’s office report states that the two allegedly stole large quantities of copper wire from Dolomite on Gulf Road in LeRoy in January and February of this year.
The release says the sheriff’s office received a report of large amounts of wire that had been cut and removed from the existing electrical system of the Dolomite facility – causing a total of about $32,000 in damage.
Nicometo was arrested Wednesday and sent to the GeneseeCounty jail on $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to reappear on the charges on LeRoy Town Court May 1.
Smoak was released under supervision of Genesee Justice and due in court April 3.
