Batavia Police are gradually learning more about the abduction that wasn’t earlier this week.
A 14-year-old Batavia girl had told authorities she was kidnapped while walking to Batavia Middle School. While they later learned that wasn’t the case, police have repeatedly stressed that they don’t know the whole story.
Detective Todd Crossett says no one should jump to conclusions about what the girl may have been doing, and says in a situation like this, the first priority for police is the welfare of the victim.
Detective Crossett confirms that the girl has returned to school. She is a student at Batavia Middle School.
Crossett says he has not spoken to the girl directly to see if she has seen or heard public comment on the situation.
