Two local teams are sectional champions after this weekend.

The Batavia boys captured their third title in five years Sunday in a 58-41 win over Newark at Blue Cross Arena, and the Notre Dame girls won their first since 2006 against Romulus, 56-41, at Letchworth on Friday.

Jalen Smith was named class B1 MVP for the Blue Devils. Riley Norton was also named MVP of the class D1 tournament and teammates Mel Taylor and Laurie Call were named to the All-Tournament team.

Both teams have advanced to their respective class’s state qualifier. The Blue Devils take on Hornell Wednesday at Blue Cross Arena at 5:45 for a chance to represent class B in the state tournament.

The Fighting Irish, also looking to advance to the state tournament in class D, take on MountMorris tonight at 7 at Pavilion in the regional playoff.

Both games will be broadcast live right here on AM 1490 WBTA and WBTAi.com.
