The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office has a person of interest in the robbery at the Batavia Sally Beauty Supply Store two weeks ago.
“We believe we have evidence that may tend to show that he was a person who committed the robbery at the beauty salon two Saturdays ago," Chief Deputy Jerome Brewster said. "We were in contact with the police across the state as well as Southern Tier authorities when he was apprehended down there. We’ve been in contact with them and working with them.”
The suspect was reportedly caught in the act of robbing a CVS in Owego. Tioga County authorities identified the suspect as 62-year-old John Malowsky of Attica.
Chief Deputy Brewster says that the person of interest was allegedly involved in three other burglaries in Corning, Big Flats and Owego which helped link him to the Sally Beauty Supply Store robbery.
“The suspect that was apprehended in the robbery downstate – his M.O. (method of operation) was almost identical to the one that we had here at the beauty shop," Chief Deputy Brewster said. "At the time of that robbery he was a prime suspect in our investigation as well.”
Chief Deputy Brewster said state parole investigators alerted the Sheriff’s office to the suspect and that the office has been cooperating with Southern Tier law enforcement.
No charges have been filed yet in any of the four burglaries.
