The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is purchasing five new patrol cars according to Undersheriff Bill Sheron. Instead of the generally mandated sedans, they will be sport utility vehicles.
Undersheriff Sheron says getting the all-wheel utility vehicles instead of using the Ford Taurus, which recently replaced Crown Victorias on the police line, will allow deputies to have more room for both the equipment and themselves. SUVs sit up a little higher, are easier to get in and out of and Undersheriff Sheron says the office prefers the safety ratings as well.
The nearly $112,000 purchase price is covered in the county budget.
